Who we are

The Westchester/Nottingham Forest VIII Women's Club welcomes neighbors from the subdivisions of Westchester, Nottingham Forest VIII, Thornwood and The Villas in Houston, Texas. The group's activities are led by member interest, but the group's core characteristics are connection, community and charity.

Connection

The Women's Club strives to connect women in all ages and stages of life. Our goal is to meet monthly, with both daytime and evening get-togethers to accommodate different schedules. Members with similar interests are welcome to set up groups for their interests. In the past, members have set up book clubs, art outings and lunch gatherings.

Community

The Women's Club also strives to serve the community. After Hurricane Harvey, members of the Women's Club helped set up an Amazon wish list so that people across the country could donate to our neighborhood supply depot. There, flooded families could get supplies like N95 masks, industrial trash bags, cases of water, drywall cutters and so much more. In addition, the supply depot became a location where volunteer groups could meet up before working in flooded homes. It became a home for central information, and many groups set up meals for families there.

Charity

For years, the Women's Club gave money to local nonprofits through annual grants. During Harvey and Covid, a pause was put on grants, but we are ready to start this program again. Letters from organizations are accepted from mid January to mid April. In late April, a committee goes through the letters and determines the grants, in amounts typically ranging from $100 to $500. The committee's recommendations are put up for approval with the membership in a meeting in May.
